In the midst of the everyday craze and rush to get from point A to point B, or even just passively going through daily routines. I tend to miss reminders that are staring me right in the face. My acts in breaking this cycle have been to carry along any camera on my commute to work and anywhere else I go. Recently my camera of choice has been my 35mm film camera. Generally on my commutes or strolls around D.C, I have no agenda of the subjects I want to shoot. I’m more concerned about being present and sensitive to what’s around me. On the other side of that, after going through some rolls of film and having them undeveloped for sometime. I forget what could possibly be on the frames.
After some time of procrastination to develop and scan the rolls at home, I started to see a theme catch on from the different rolls; The Cross. Compiling the different images of the cross across the rolls made me really reflect and prompted me to find more time to rejoice and give thanks to what God has done for me, and is currently doing for me in this season. The cross has to be one of the most recognizable symbols in history, yet it may be the most overlooked. The life, death, resurrection of Christ and his love to reconnect his brothers and sisters to his Father in Heaven is the promise and reminder I’ve been overlooking.
Life can be a rush, and all the commitments we have can definitely make things difficult to pause and have a moment to ourselves. One thing I hope to be an encouragement to anyone is that despite how crazy things are, or have been, is that God is ever present and ever yearning to commune and fellowship with us. Even if it is just for a brief moment. As the cross was my reminder to slow down, I hope you are able to find and see your prompt to take a few minutes to just Be.
God Bless and thanks for reading!
